Day one of the BSAM presents Malabar Hill Club State Ranking Tournament ’24 set the stage for an iconic clash between youthful zeal and seasoned experience.
Under the lights of Malabar Hill Club, with the fast-paced 26oz cloth demanding every bit of skill, adaptability, and grit, players battled fiercely for dominance.
Table No. 4 saw a riveting encounter as 13-year-old prodigy Aarav Sancheti from Pune, Maharashtra, took on a wily veteran four times his age. Sancheti launched his campaign with a decisive first frame victory, showcasing sharp potting skills. But his seasoned rival, Anil Kumar from the Paschim Region, responded strategically, drawing from his experience to secure the second frame and bring the score level at 1-1.
Aarav was quick to bounce back, pulling off an impressive 40 break to seize a 2-1 lead. However, his momentum was checked as Anil switched gears, balancing defensive and offensive strategies to perfection. With each frame a nail-biter, Anil edged his way to a 4-2 lead, eventually clinching a hard-fought 5-3 win in this best-of-9 thriller.
While experience triumphed today, Aarav’s fearless play and talent presage a bright future in the snooker circuit.
With this victory, Anil Kumar now advances to face Nikhil Saigal in the second round.
