In a thrilling clash at the BSAM presents Malabar Hill Club State Ranking Tournament 2024, Vishal Madan delivered a stunning comeback to edge past Sumer Mago with a closely-contested 3-2 victory in the Senior Billiards category.
The match began with Mago asserting his dominance, showcasing exceptional skill with a scintillating 104 break, followed by breaks of 54 and 40, leaving Vishal trailing 0-2. Mago’s aggressive snookering billiards seemed to put Madan on the back foot in the early stages of the game.
But the former state champion, known for his resilience, staged a remarkable fightback. Starting off with a solid 60 break in the third frame, Madan began to claw his way back into contention. The fourth frame saw Madan continue his momentum with consistent scoring and defensive brilliance, forcing the decider.
In the final frame, Madan’s experience shone through as he delivered a composed 66 break, sealing his spot in the semifinals with a memorable victory.
Speaking after the match, Madan said, “Sumer is a terrific player, and he really pushed me to my limits. This win means a lot, especially in such a competitive field. It’s all about staying focused in the key moments.”
Vishal Madan now moves on to face home favorite Rajeev Sharma in what promises to be a high-stakes semifinal encounter.
