In a nail-biting showdown at the MG Open Break Billiards Tournament 2024, Sharad Sharma faced a heart-wrenching loss against Raj Charri by a mere point in the final minute.
The match was a cat and mouse chase as young Charri led by 1 point until a foul shot that gave Sharad a reversal to his losing side. However, as the game reached its climax, fate dealt a cruel blow to Sharad, snatching victory away in the most agonizing fashion.
With less than 15 seconds on the timer, the Garware cueist approached the table for his final stroke. As the cue swung for its last delivery, Sharma miscued right before the buzzer went off leaving the referee, opponent Charri and the spectators in a state of confusion. Trying to assimilate of what occurred in the spur of a second, the referee gave his final call of a foul which gifted Raj his twist of tale victory.
Despite the disappointment, Sharad’s sportsmanship shone through as he graciously accepted defeat, vowing to return stronger and more determined in future competitions.
“I am impressed with the way Raj has played the game. He looks too new to the sport but I’m glad that a young guy is trying to pick up the cue and play the game in the right spirit. I wish him the best of luck and probably I’ll be luckier to even it out next time I play a tournament” said the disheartened but a smiling Sharma.
Indeed a race against time, and the MG Open is ticking to start off with the Stage 2.
