Krishna Tohgaonkar pulled off a sensational comeback at the BSAM presents Malabar Hill Club State Championship 2024, defeating the in-form Hasan Badami after trailing 1-3.
We caught up with the man of the moment, and here’s what he had to say:
Mindset:
“So many thoughts were running through my head as I saw the game slipping away. I had to break it all down—one frame, one ball at a time. Hasan’s forte is tactical play, so I had to force myself to stick to my rhythm.”
Mission:
“The mission was simple: Start scoring. Capitalize on open opportunities, avoid risky shots, take the lead, and maintain it. I’m glad the plan worked and helped me realign to the present moment.”
Pressure:
“At 1-3, the pressure was immense. My focus was on making it 3-all, and somehow, the entire game boiled down to the final three colors in the decider. Sticking to the plan, I had to trust my instincts on the final blue—a do-or-die moment. Thankfully, I survived.”
Next Opponent:
“Indian No. 6 Shabaz is a tough nut to crack. I’ve played him in local tournaments and managed to beat him a few times. Let’s hope for a good game in the Top 8. Win or lose, I’m taking away invaluable experience.”
As the Top 8 lineup is revealed, the stakes have never been higher for Maharashtra’s elite cueists. With pride and glory on the line, who will emerge as the ultimate champion?
