In a thrilling qualifying match between the seasoned Shekhar Surve and the young Pranay More at the MG Open Break Billiards Tournament 2024, drama unfolded as both cueists entered the only tiebreaker of Stage 1.
With no scores in the first 90 minutes of the penultimate round, the challengers were forced into a tie-breaking 30-minute extra time.
The extra time adhered to all standard billiards rules, and unfortunately, More, the Mahalabar Hill Club player, found himself in a predicament. Leading by a single point with only a few minutes remaining on the timer, More trapped himself with a self-double baulk. Despite attempting to force a touch on either of the balls, he failed to get close enough, resulting in Shekhar being awarded a 2-point miss.
With the tables turning in favor of Surve, the Shivaji Park Gymkhana Cueist narrowly escaped defeat by a mere one point, securing his entry into Stage 2 of the MG Open Break Billiards Tournament 2024.
He is now pitted against State No. 3 Hitesh Kotwani, former State Champion Vishal Madan, and fellow qualifier from Islam Gymkhana, Anwar Choudhary.
