Mumbai youngster Sumer Mago stunned fancied Dhvaj Haria in a thrilling decider to advance to the Round of 16 here at the Sir Wilson Jones Billiards Room at CCI, Mumbai.
At 3-3, the match was forced into overtime. Resuming after a couple of hours, the decider saw Sumer keep his more experienced opponent tight from the start, with crafty safety play. Employing superior tact, Sumer held his nerve under pressure. He did not leave Dhvaj with many openings, and capitalised well enough on the few he got himself to edge out Dhvaj.
He will look to continue his good run of form in the coming round, where he faces former World Billiards Champion Sourav Kothari for a place in the quarter-finals.
