Former IBSF World Snooker Quarter Finalist, Asian Snooker Semi Finalist, Prat Cup Hong Kong International Cup Winner, former India No. 2 and former Indian National Coach showed glimpses of his fine touch in his first encounter of Matunga Gymkhana presents MG 6 Red Open Snooker Tournament.
Sawant who last featured in the first edition of NSCI’s Baulkline, was seen in action in the morning session against Dadar Club’s Umesh Marathe.
Both the veterans were seen in contrast styles as Sanjay was seen in his orthodox Snooker stance while Umesh in an unusual only rest shots or should we say a stance using the support of the rest only. However Sawant fired a crisp 28 to steal the first frame only to survive a black ball frame 2 and eventually seal the match convincingly 3-0 to end on a relieved note.
One of the finest Break Builders in the Indian Cuesports history, Sanjay Sawant has been instrumental in promoting the sport first as a player and later by his teachings as a coach and mentor over the past 30 years.
Watching him play in his second innings on the baize is more than inspiring as this hardcore of a snooker player has manifested grit and perseverance through his game and coaching in the most simplified way.
The MG Open has more to offer than just play and this is one of its giveaway to watch India’s finest in a redefined form in Round 2 playing on 24th February 2023.
Watch him in action again at Matunga Gymkhana and until then wait for more dosage of #sixmg with #sportal.
