Madan into the Grand Finale!
Former State Champion and reseeded top player in the BSAM presents Malabar Hill Club State Ranking Tournament ‘24, Vishal Madan secured his spot in the grand finale with a hard-fought 4-2 victory over home favorite and state-ranked 4, Rajeev Sharma.
With the match tied at 2 frames each, the contest hung in the balance, creating a suspenseful atmosphere as both players fought for supremacy. But Madan, sticking to his late-start ritual seen in his previous encounter, found his form just in time. He weathered the pressure and denied Rajeev the opportunity to take the lead, turning the momentum in his favor and seizing control of the match.
While neither player managed significant breaks in the 3rd or 4th frames, Madan, fresh from a recent billiard tournament in Bangalore, relied on his solid fundamentals and capitalized on unforced errors from Rajeev. This strategy helped him close out the match convincingly, ending with a 4-2 scoreline.
“I started off late again in this game, and my quarterfinal match against Sumer Mago was mentally exhausting. I knew if I didn’t take control of the table, Rajeev, who has been in tremendous form, would definitely get the better of me. I’m glad my ‘diesel engine’ kicked in at the right moment, allowing me to cruise past this challenge with some comfort,” said an elated Madan.
Now, only one step stands between Madan and the ultimate glory. He will face Rishabh Thakkar in the grand finale, scheduled to start today at 12 noon.
