Hitesh Kotwani survives!

In his opening match at the Chembur Gymkhana’s prestigious Mumbai Ladu Samrat – Om Agrawal Open Handicap Billiards Tournament 2024, Hitesh Kotwani, the current State No. 3, narrowly evaded defeat against JVPG’s formidable contender, Manvir Sohal.

Despite starting with a handicap of -375, Kotwani strategically crafted modest yet impactful breaks, maintaining momentum and positioning himself favorably in the match. With a required scoring ratio of 1:5 against Manvir, who was playing on a handicap of -80, Kotwani’s resilience became evident in the final moments of the game. His last two visits to the table proved decisive as he fired a 49 followed by a 50 to narrow down his range to only 13 points before missing a crucial thin in off to allow Manvir to fight for his survival in the tournament. Manvir executed a flamboyant canon to seize his only opportunity but broke down allowing Hitesh to escape defeat by a mere 33 points as he struggled to surpass the 167-point mark required for victory.

Reflecting on his performance, Kotwani credited the exceptional table conditions for facilitating his natural gameplay. Expressing relief, he remarked, “The table conditions are fantastic, making it easier to execute my practiced shots. Though I faced some challenges, I’m determined to return stronger and deliver my best performance in the upcoming matches.”
