NSCI’s Ajinkya Yelve booked his place in the Quarter Finals of the Matunga Gymkhana presents MG 6 Red Open Snooker Tournament 2023.
Escaping 4-3 in a thrilling decider game in the Top 32 against Pratik Thakkar, Yelve set his priorities right on the baize to upset MIG’s Prabdeep Singh in the Top 16 Challenge.
Both the Cueist, known for their aggressive style of play, were seen off colour but striking hard displaying their best form to fight for the Top 8 place.
Playing at 2 frames each, Ajinkya struck form to take away the 5th frame convincingly with breaks of 24 and 26 and front run yet again with a 3-2 lead.
The 6th game was a test of nerves as Yelve strived to wrap up the game while Singh striving to keep his chances alive. However, Singh’s effort couldn’t translate into a decider match as Ajinkya potted the final pink and the black to win the match and get the monkey off his shoulder to set clash with Sumit Sardulkar.
MG 6 Red Open has seen the maximum number of deciders and for us, Sportal, this is the first time to cover so many close encounters.
The competition is tough and we can see it now.
