CCI’s Dr. Phiroz Patel added to a day of upsets with a narrow escape against State legend Chandresh “Chandu” Shah in the Round 1 clash of the Vijay Ved Memorial Open Handicap Billiards Tournament 2025.
Though the opening seemed in control of the multiple-time State Champion, Dr. Patel — the ever-calm and renowned ophthalmologist — found his rhythm, stitching together a gritty all-round old school game that featured a neat revising 34, alongside a series of cannons and in offs that added 20s and 30s to his wver ticking scoreboard.
As two veterans went head-to-head, Patel’s target of 165 came within reach, while Chandu Shah playing on (-50) fell short by just 16 points, bowing out after a fiercely fought battle in the final moments.
This wasn’t merely about victory — it was about passion, legacy, and love for the game. As PJ Hindu Gymkhana hosts its second tournament in just four months, it honours the spirit of the late Viju Bhai, who remains ever-present in the room where it all began.
Stay tuned as The Sportal digitally powers the three-ball mayhem!
