Rishabh Thakkar, back in action after an extended break, has secured two impressive wins at the Chembur Gymkhana presents Mumbai Ladu Samrat – Om Agrawal Open Handicap Billiards Tournament 2024.
Playing with a daunting handicap of -375, Thakkar faced a tough challenge in the first round against Shakir Qureshi. With Qureshi needing only 70 points to Thakkar’s 400, Thakkar found himself in a tight spot. However, the former State No. 2 demonstrated his resilience and skill, delivering a crucial 90 break followed by two 50 breaks to narrowly escape defeat by just 19 points.
In the second round, a reinvigorated Thakkar took to the table, decisively defeating Suyog Sawant. Thakkar crafted breaks of 148, 99, and 78, wrapping up the match within two hours and advancing to the round of 16.
Reflecting on his performance, Thakkar said, “Since I’m back from a break, my approach is very cautious, and I’m avoiding shots that are even 50% likely. However, the last game helped me feel more settled at the table. This tournament is a great opportunity to ease back into serious match play. The conditions here are excellent, providing a pristine environment that naturally encourages better performance.”
