The opening day of The Chembur Gymkhana’s Mumbai Ladu Samrat – Om Agrawal Open Handicap Billiards Tournament 2024 saw a stunning upset as Jayraj Amane, representing Chembur Gymkhana, surprised the seasoned Rovin D’Souza.
Competing with a scratch handicap in the first round’s race to 200, Amane capitalized on his home advantage to maintain relentless pressure on D’Souza, who was playing with a -250 handicap.
Despite D’Souza’s prowess in Snooker and his growing reputation in the three-ball format, he seemed out of form and struggled to contain his determined young opponent.
Failing to capitalize on crucial opportunities to narrow the deficit, the tournament’s handicap system proved crucial as Jayraj compiled a composed 38 break, followed by several 20s, ultimately clinching victory with a slim 87-point margin.
Amane now sets his sights on a Round 2 showdown against the winner of Akshay Gogri and Aditya Agrawal.
The tournament is now in full momentum and so is our insightful coverage of the happenings at the Chembur Gymkhana.
